RSU 40 board forms Long‑Term Sustainability Advisory Committee to study enrollment, finances

The RSU 40 board voted to create a seven‑member Long‑Term Sustainability Advisory Committee charged with reviewing enrollment, financial, facility and educational information and developing a range of options for the board to consider.

A board member reading the motion said: "The RSU 40 ad hoc committee be charged with reviewing relevant enrollment, financial, facility, and educational information, gathering input from the communities served by the district, and developing a range of reasonable options for the board's consideration. The committee shall evaluate each option according to consistent educational, financial, operational and facilities and community criteria and shall provide the board with monthly updates and a written update by 02/04/2027." The motion was moved by Nathan (committee member) and seconded by Rachel Wilcox (committee member). The chair called the vote; the motion passed with a recorded tally of yes: 8, no: 0, abstentions: 3.

Board members debated several structural and process questions before the vote. Some members urged a committee focused on analysis and development of options with strong community engagement; others emphasized the need for a smaller, data‑focused committee that could synthesize information efficiently.
