HCISD announces safety committee, ConnectED partnership and emergency-plan updates

Acting Superintendent Kelly Baggett reported several information items to the board on Oct. 14, 2024. Baggett announced the establishment of a Safety & Security Committee in accordance with Texas Education Code Chapter 37 and listed members including board trustees, campus staff, law enforcement and community representatives.
Baggett also said HCISD will participate in the ConnectED Texas program offered by the Texas Association of School Boards and Diamond Communications to improve wireless services and connectivity for rural districts. She noted a leadership-development opportunity in March 2025 through Lubbock Christian University's West Texas Leadership Academy aimed at potential leaders from smaller districts.
Baggett informed the board that the 2024–25 Multi-Hazard Emergency Operations Basic Plan and the 2024–25 Cybersecurity Annex were revised on Sept. 6, 2024 and submitted to the Texas School Safety Center on Sept. 23, 2024. Campus principal and athletic director reports were tabled due to time, and the board adjourned at 9:35 p.m.
