Board adopts TASB 'Update 123', renames Athletic Code to Extracurricular Code, and approves Wellness Policy

The Hale Center ISD Board voted on Oct. 14, 2024 to incorporate the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) 'Update 123' into the district's local policy manual. Michael Gonzales moved to adopt the TASB update; the motion was seconded by Troy McGann and approved (5-0).
Separately, the board voted to amend the previously approved Athletic Code of Conduct to be titled the Extracurricular Code of Conduct, reflecting that the document covers more than athletics. Paul Chandler moved the amendment; Heath Huffhines seconded and the motion passed (5-0).
The board also approved the Wellness Policy as presented by the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) at its Oct. 7 meeting; Troy McGann moved to approve and Paul Chandler seconded (5-0). The minutes record SHAC's finalization of the policy on Oct. 7 but do not include the policy text in the meeting minutes.
These items were recorded on the consent/action portion of the agenda and were approved without recorded dissent.
