Residents press council on vacant Main Street buildings, park grills and access to council packets

Several residents used the public-comment portion of the April 16 meeting to press the council on building condition, public facilities and access to meeting materials.
Pat Baker said several Main Street buildings and some homes on 2nd Street are vacant and in poor condition, and that repairs on 2nd Street that used rock and later tar are still "causing a mess." Baker also told the council that "the wall on 2nd St is an eye sore as it doesn’t look like a finished project." Dan Schultz asked why the "buffalo electric" sign at the new city hall site was removed, why trees were cut at the new city hall property, noted the sign on the back wall of the current city hall needs repainting, and urged replacement of grills at Buena Vista Park. Orlyn Hoksch told the council that the council packets are not available to the public and "shouldn’t cost money" to obtain.
Council members did not take formal action during public comment but heard specific requests that bear on downtown blight, park maintenance and transparency in providing meeting materials to residents.
