Palatka commissioners press consultants to fix TIF and 'Main Street' boundary confusion

Multiple commissioners recommended dropping the word "historic" from TIF district labels and using names such as "North TIF District" and "South TIF District" to avoid conflating separate boundaries. One commissioner said the difference "is a source of confusion in the community." The consultant agreed to revise labels and double-check boundaries with staff.
The board also questioned a slide showing a "Main Street" boundary. Commissioners clarified that the "Main Street" program (a statewide economic development program) and the street named Main Street are distinct; the consultant agreed to verify the official Main Street program boundary with state records before including it in the plan. "We can double check if the boundary is right," the consultant said.
Staff and commissioners asked that the consultant not include an inaccurate Main Street overlay in public drafts until the boundary is verified. The board also asked staff to provide previous plan documents so board members new to the CRA can review earlier decisions and avoid repeating work.
