Committee seeks $15,000 state funds to digitize youth artwork for 250th anniversary

Miss Miller of the Mary Betterment Committee described a state-funded commemorative project after receiving a county letter. The New York State Education Department is allocating $15,000 to Wilmington County to help commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War; Miss Miller said the committee will run a youth art program on June 6 in which students, assisted by local art teachers, will create patriotic artwork to be photographed and compiled into books for participants and the town historian.
Miss Miller said the books would be displayed in town hall during June and July and that if grant funds are not received the activity will still run but the publication of the compiled artwork would be suspended. She also noted that the preservation committee (town historian) may be available to answer questions when the display is mounted.
