Parks report: Summer Fun revenue $36,980; swim lessons, raft repairs and lifeguard staffing on next budget

Parks staff (Speaker 2) told the board Summer Fun ends this Friday and revenues from campers stood at $36,980 to date. The park will close for swimming on Aug. 9; lifeguards will not be on duty after that date though the park will remain open for passive use.
Speaker 2 said swim lessons were held for two weeks with 23 swimmers and brought in $690; staff plan to expand lesson weeks and registration processes next year. Concerns about a damaged raft and bolt failures were raised and staff said they will attempt land repairs in the fall and re-deploy the raft next season. The parks report also asked the board to consider weekend staffing during next years budget to handle increased pavilion rentals and weekend usage.
Board members discussed lifeguard compensation and certification. One committee member recommended offering a stipend or voucher for WSI-certified instructors; Speaker 2 said there is no stipend this year but proposed a separate senior lifeguard rate next season. Speaker 3 said town staff could identify potential trainees for January/February WSI training to expand certified coverage.
