On Sept. 3 the commission advanced an ordinance on first reading that amends the lease with the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida for the Little House Reserve Park (6609 SW 60th Street). City staff described the amendment as narrowing the leased premises to the house and surrounding curtilage while making adjacent strips available as city-managed public use.
Chelsea Wilkerson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida, thanked the city and said the agreement preserves long-term stewardship: "I really think this is a a wonderful way to strike a balance in our ability to continue to serve girls at this very beloved property while also doing the right thing by the natural forest community that's there on that property," she said. Miriam Solar Ramos (board member) also thanked staff and volunteers who helped finalize the agreement.
City staff said the lease term through 2054 remains unchanged; the amendment adds standard lease provisions (maintenance, fencing of the leased house area, an initial property inspection and safe-to-occupy certifications at the outset and every 10 years). After public comment from residents in favor, the commission approved the ordinance on first reading on a roll-call vote; final adoption will occur on second reading.
