HPISD reports broad end-of-year assessment gains and next steps for writing instruction

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Shorr Heathcote presented preliminary end-of-year assessment results to trustees, reporting districtwide growth across grade levels and subject areas. She said MAP Growth testing for grades K–7 occurred April 27–May 15 and showed growth that exceeded district targets; Pre-K CIRCLE progress monitoring put roughly 90% of students on track, and K–2 mCLASS assessments indicated over 90% meeting or exceeding benchmarks.
Heathcote also outlined updates to grammar and writing instruction, including increased use of the Bedford Handbook and Open Court Language Usage Handbook, expanded grammar assessments and WrAP writing assessments in grades 5, 7 and 11 to help identify classroom needs. She said parents can access individual scores via Skyward Family Access beginning May 22.
