Fire chief reports 65% increase in call volume over eight years; ambulance response times improve

On ambulance response, the chief said the town previously contracted with a different provider with an average response time near 14 minutes, and that the current contractor Mercy has averaged about a 10‑minute response time. "One of the interesting things in the last 8 years, we've had in the town of Berry, we've had a 65% increase in call volume," the chief said (transcript place name normalized to Barre in this report).
The chief said ongoing training has been conducted at the fire hall, including fit testing and air‑consumption drills, and that he continues to work with county officials on a countywide fire & EMS study. The board received the report; no board action was required at the meeting.
