The JEFFERSON ISD board voted to set a public hearing on Aug. 11, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the JISD Administration office to discuss the 2026-2027 budget and the district's tax rate. Joey Romano made the motion and Lauren Glover seconded; the motion carried 7-0.
District finance officer Rebecca Pearl reviewed the expenditure side of the district's three funds and explained how local, state and federal funding streams support the general fund, food service and debt service. Pearl also briefed trustees on what a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) is and why the district might pursue one; no board action was required on those explanatory items at the meeting.
Board members said they wanted the community to have a formal opportunity to review the proposed budget and tax-rate options at the scheduled public hearing. The hearing date and location were set by a recorded 7-0 vote; the board will consider final adoption and any required tax-rate action at subsequent meetings following the public hearing.
