Residents raise tree-safety concerns; board outlines Summerfest safety steps

Resident Jenny Nation told the board there is a tree limb on the boulevard side of the sidewalk that hangs across her driveway and asked that someone inspect it before it fails and possibly damages property or a vehicle. President Bruce Dowdy said "someone would look at it." Trustee Tammy Wilson separately asked that Public Works address a long limb over village property near Scott Hodges' parcel during the next trimming cycle.
The board also discussed Summerfest public-safety logistics. President Dowdy said Assistant Chief Phil Deal has been trying to contact the railroad to request reduced train speeds during the festival. Chief Travis Peden will drive in the parade but will not toss candy; an officer's grandchild will help distribute candy. Assistant Chief Phil Deal will be on duty Friday and Sunday nights for the event, and Dowdy said he would check with the county about additional patrols.
Office Manager/Treasurer Kari Scott raised an administrative issue asking that the ordinance requirement for the Chief of Police to inspect golf carts/side-by-sides be revised because the police department is not always available; President Dowdy suggested changing the language to allow a village employee to perform the inspection. The board did not take immediate formal action on ordinance language but signaled support to adjust the responsible inspector in ordinance text.
