Trustee Kirstin Johnson moved and Trustee Joey Romano seconded a motion to appoint Ms. Karen Jones as the official to calculate JEFFERSON ISD's tax rate; the board approved the appointment unanimously, 7-0. The appointment took place early in the action items on the June 9 meeting agenda.
Finance staffer Rebecca Pearl led a subsequent budget workshop focused on projected revenues. Pearl explained that projected revenues tied to certified property values are still in flux and that recent recalculations of state funding mean state revenue projections will likely change. She said more information on expenditures will be provided at the board's July meeting.
The meeting record does not include a proposed tax rate figure or a schedule for when the formal tax-rate adoption will return to the board; Ms. Pearl identified property-value certification and state funding recalculations as the primary reasons projections remain uncertain.
