"So, as a reminder, MAP is an online assessment. So students take this individually, three times a year," the academic presenter said, underscoring the need for device access. Staff added that a new phonics program requires daily short 'skills checks' for kindergarten students, creating pressure for daily device availability in lower grades. "So from an instructional perspective, even with phonics, they need a device every day for even kindergarten," the presenter said.
Trustees discussed options: some suggested desktop computers in classrooms to support typing and curriculum access, while others favored keeping current deployments and considering future bond proposals for a broader refresh. Administrators said many devices are aging and a refresh conversation is upcoming; they also pledged to pursue tactical steps (scheduling and device-sharing strategies) to reduce lost instructional time caused by staggered testing windows.
