Trustee Erickson moved to amend the recommendation to limit non‑enrolled participation to athletics only; trustees engaged in a long debate about fairness to enrolled students, staff capacity, potential incentives for families to leave the district, and whether fine arts and academic UIL activities should be included. Trustee Burt urged caution and recommended maintaining the status quo; Trustee Coker and others argued inclusivity and noted the number of homeschool participants in athletics has been small. The amendment failed; the original motion to adopt the full‑participation resolution passed 4–3. Administration will draft strict guidelines and noted UIL requires districts to notify by Sept. 1.
