The Lake Dallas Independent School District Board unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Lake Dallas Police Department and the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute to implement the Handle With Care program. LDISD Chief of Police Chadd Springer presented the MOU, describing the program as a national initiative that alerts schools when children experience trauma so staff can ready supportive strategies prior to the next school day.
According to the presentation, the program sends a notification from law enforcement to school staff without investigative details; the aim is to reduce disciplinary incidents, improve attendance and strengthen student supports. The Board approved the MOU 7-0. The district did not provide a timeline for rollout in the meeting notes; staff will coordinate with law enforcement and Meadows Mental Health on implementation details.
