La Porte ISD honors students and community programs at May board meeting

At its May 12 meeting, the La Porte ISD Board of Trustees recognized a range of student and community achievements. College Park Elementary students performed under the direction of music teacher Rachael Samm. The board acknowledged students who participated in Special Olympics and named winners of the Sylvan Beach Parade (Jennie Reid Elementary — Best Themed Entry; C2C Sports — Most Original; La Porte High School Band — Best Showmanship; Bayshore Elementary — Judges’ Overall Favorite).
The La Porte High School JROTC Archery Team was recognized for placing 21st at the State Archery Tournament, receiving an invitation to the National JROTC Archery Tournament and for ranking 15th nationally and second in Texas. Bayshore Elementary student Danika Wendel was named Entrepreneur of the Year, with runners-up and the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce mentors also acknowledged. The board also recognized participants in the Aspiring Leadership Academy Cohort 5.
