La Porte ISD board certifies May 2 election results and swears in trustees

The La Porte Independent School District Board of Trustees accepted the final results of the May 2, 2026 General Trustee Election and formally certified the canvass on May 12, 2026. Trustee Dee Anne Thomson moved to accept the returns, seconded by Trustee Melissa Crutcher; the motion passed by a vote of 7 to 0.
Following the canvass, an Oath of Office was administered to Jeff Martin and Karen Wheeler-Hall by Candace Olivares, administrative assistant and notary public; each elected trustee signed the Statement of Officer and then took their seats at the dais. The canvass and swearing-in were conducted in open session as required by Chapter 67 of the Texas Election Code.
The board convened to a closed session earlier in the evening and reconvened at 7:01 PM; no open-session action from closed session was announced. The meeting proceeded to routine recognitions and administrative reports after the swearing-in.
