Keller ISD president announces trustee resignation; board pauses action while legal counsel advises on filling vacant seat

Board President Burt announced during the Keller ISD Board of Trustees meeting on Nov. 20 that Trustee Dr. Charles Rancliff submitted his resignation, which the president said became effective on Dec. 10, 2025.
"Trustee doctor Charles Rancliff submitted his resignation from the Keller ISD Board of Trustees, place 6, on 12/10/2025," Burt said, noting the seat is now officially vacant and the board would not take public action that night. Burt said legal counsel Haley Turner would participate in executive session to advise the board on options for filling the vacancy.
The president asked for no immediate comment while the board obtains legal guidance. "Miss Turner will be participating in executive session this evening to provide guidance on the board's legal responsibilities and options for filling this vacant seat," Burt said, and added that the issue would be placed on a future meeting agenda for public consideration.
The announcement drew multiple public comments during the meeting's public-comment period in which speakers urged transparency and accountability from trustees. Several members of the public linked the resignation to broader concerns about board conduct and district legal expenses.
The board returned from executive session later in the evening and adjourned; the district did not take a public vote or make a final determination about how it will fill Place 6 during the Nov. 20 meeting. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2026, according to remarks made at the session.
