The Lake Dallas ISD Board unanimously approved a Police Department Policy & Procedure Manual created through Lexipol and a package of policy revisions on Aug. 26.
Chadd Springer, the district's Chief Administrator of Safety & Security, presented key chapters from the manual including law enforcement role and authority, patrol and traffic operations, investigations, custody, equipment and support services. The board approved the manual on a motion by Aaron Appleby, seconded by Scott Baird; the motion passed 7'0'0to 0.
Springer also asked the board to delete the existing CKEC(Local)-SRO policy and adopt CKE(Local)-D1SRO to replace it; in addition the board adopted revisions to DH(Local) to allow for use or possession of a firearm by specified employees and changes to DEC(Local) governing "Mental Health Leave", "Quarantine Leave" and "Line of Duty Illness or Injury Leave of Absence for District Peace Officers." The package was approved in a single motion so the policies will be updated together as the district prepares to form its police department.
Board minutes record the approvals and identify the policies to be deleted and adopted as part of the administrative implementation steps. The district indicated the policy changes are intended to align board policy with the operational needs of a district police function.
