Lake Dallas High students honored for UIL and statewide contests

The board recognized LDHS student Alaina Clemens for a fourth-place finish in the UIL Spelling & Vocabulary State contest (Conference 4A) and more than 30 band students for Excellent/Superior results at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest; several students earned Gold State Medals.
At the June 22 meeting, LDHS teacher Jesse Eubanks recognized Alaina Clemens for finishing fourth at the UIL Spelling & Vocabulary contest in Conference 4A, a first major academic state placement for Lake Dallas ISD. Band Director Mikaela Pyle then acknowledged 33 band students for their performances at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in Austin, naming students who received Excellent ratings and several who earned Superior ratings and Gold State Medals.
Named performers receiving Excellent ratings included Jaxsen Fisher, Emily Skousen, Makena Reed and others for individual solos and ensembles. Students achieving Superior ratings and Gold State Medals included Peyton Boyer (marimba), Dani Sanders (keyboard percussion), Ethan Glowney (clarinet), and Esther Kitamura (trombone). The board publicly recognized the students and their directors; the recognitions were presented as informational items without board action.
