Lake Travis ISD honored for arts and music: TAEA District of Distinction and festival invitations

District communications reported multiple recognitions at the start of the Aug. 21 meeting.
Marco Alvarado presented that Lake Travis ISD is a 2024 Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) District of Distinction, one of 68 districts recognized statewide (top ~5.5% by TAEA metrics). The award reflects district efforts to integrate visual arts curriculum, community exhibitions and participation in programs such as VASE, Junior VASE and TEAM. The winning districts will be honored at the TAEA Fall Conference General Assembly in November.
The minutes also note that the Lake Travis High School Wind Ensemble placed 7th at the TMEA 6A Honor Band State Finals (Richard Hicks is identified as the high school band director). The Lake Travis Middle School Orchestra has been accepted to perform at the 2025 Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis (ensemble director listed as Man May). These recognitions were presented as informational items and required no board action.
