Superintendent reports enrollment growth, CTE participation and progress on new Ag Barn after student raises facility concerns

Superintendent Dr. James Young told the Kemp ISD Board of Trustees Sept. 16 that district enrollment is 1,972 students — an increase of 35 from the same time last year — and reported high participation in career and technical education programs: high-school CTE unique-student participation at 98.2% (grades 9–12) and junior-high CTE at 91.4% (grades 7–8).
Dr. Young also said the Kemp ISD Police Department completed 2,660 door checks on campuses and that the maintenance department closed 153 of 205 work orders. He reported that architect drawings for the new Ag Barn are 95% complete and that land behind the high school has been cleared; he said he would like to close off a section for FFA animals to graze. A junior-high student, Xander Bailey, addressed the board during public comment to raise concerns about the condition of the existing Kemp FFA Ag Barn facility.
