CFO: August payments likely to 'just about zero out' district budget; trustees will decide 2025–26 budget at next meeting
Summary
At a special Aug. 21 meeting, Lamesa ISD CFO Scott Lucas handed out budget comparisons and said incoming receipts and August payments should "just about zero out" the district budget if there are no surprises; trustees will take a final look and vote on the 2025–26 budget at a subsequent meeting.

Scott Lucas, the district chief financial officer, distributed comparison sheets showing the 2023–24 and 2024–25 budgets during a special meeting of the Lamesa Board of Trustees on Aug. 21, 2025. On the record he stated, "it appears that most of the money coming in and the August’s payments should just about zero out the budget given no surprises appear." The comment was presented as an estimate of the district’s near‑term fiscal outlook.
Trustees treated the review as informational and did not vote on the 2025–26 budget on Aug. 21; board members said they will take one final look at the numbers and make a decision at their next meeting. Ernest Ogeda arrived after the meeting began (5:06 p.m.), and the session was adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
