Stephen King told the board the town's comprehensive-plan process has reached a milestone with the release of a first draft after roughly two-and-a-half years of work.
"After two and a half years the comprehensive plan is real. The first draft was released this week," King said, and he urged committee members to review and send comments by June 24. King described a workflow in which committee edits are followed by a public hearing — likely at the library — and then board-level hearings. Committee member Katy Cashen suggested forming a zoning committee to implement recommendations and recommended retaining the consultant currently assisting the plan for continuity; lawyer Robert Fitzsimmons advised bundling changes when appropriate to streamline code updates.
Board members discussed timing and the possibility that completing the plan this summer or early fall would help inform any moratoriums or imminent zoning decisions. The plan's next steps as described in the meeting packet are committee review, public hearings, and Town Board consideration with targeted recommendations for boards and commissions to consult during future land-use decisions.
