Health officer: CHIP progress ongoing but county lacks capacity on childcare and housing

Marquette County Health Officer Jayme Sopha presented an overview of the health department’s strategic plan and how it aligns with the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), identifying Equity, Access to Health Care, and Affordable Housing as the CHIP priorities. Sopha said the department has had the least capacity to address access to childcare and affordable housing and that committees and partner funding will be needed to advance those priorities.
Sopha noted the CHIP is a periodic requirement and said the original plan—completed at the end of 2022—assigned many tasks to the health educator role. "The Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) is state-mandated that we do every five years," Sopha said. The department will continue evaluating funding and partnership opportunities as they arise.
