The Marquette County Department of Human Services board on Aug. 4 voted to approve the proposed 2026 budget for the County Veterans Service Office (CVSO) and to forward the plan to the Executive & Finance Committee. The motion, moved by Peggy Krause and seconded by Chuck Bornhoeft, carried 4–3 (Noes: Cathy Christensen, Mary Walters, and Tim Jozwiak).
CVSO Veterans Services Officer Kris Bergh presented the recommendation to retain the CVSO assistant position as full-time, citing data about caseloads, workload and backlog before and after having a full-time CVSO. The board’s decision preserves the staffing at 1.5 positions for the CVSO in the proposed budget and advances the item for further executive-level review.
