Administrator Ron Barger reported that a complaint to the Department of Corrections revealed the county's existing smoking policy and ordinance did not explicitly cover vaping. Barger presented proposed edits to Chapter 80, specifically to sections 80.03(E) and 80.08(B), and an updated policy titled "Smoking, Vaping, and Tobacco Use." The committee voted to approve the policy change and to forward proposed ordinance amendments to the Executive & Finance Committee.
The minutes record that Mary Walters moved and Dave Benson seconded the motion to approve the new policy and ordinance changes; the motion carried. The minutes do not record a roll-call tally. The amendments will next be reviewed by Executive & Finance before any final adoption by the county.
