On Sept. 2, 2025 the Marquette County Property Committee voted to approve proposed 2026 budgets for Buildings & Grounds and for Property and to forward both packages to the county's Executive & Finance Committee for further consideration.
Buildings & Grounds Superintendent Paul Van Treeck presented the B&G proposal and highlighted an estimated $5,000 in annual savings from switching garbage pickup vendors and additional personnel savings because the department did not fill a vacant custodian position for 2026. Van Treeck also described planned lifecycle replacements across facilities.
During the same presentation Van Treeck said the Property budget accounts for Tax Deed-related activity (handled by the County Treasurer) and noted specific line-item impacts: a radio tower project contract increase of $23,000 annually and replacement of all battery backups in 2026 (battery life cycle is approximately three years). Committee members moved and approved forwarding the proposed budgets to Executive & Finance for continuing review.
The committee record shows the motions to forward the B&G and Property budgets carried; the minutes record "motion carried" but do not include a roll-call vote in the transcript provided. The budgets will next be considered by the Executive & Finance Committee.
