The Llano ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution Sept. 23 directing the superintendent to pay employees who were idled by recent bad-weather school closures for days that will not be made up.
The resolution cites recent flooding that altered the district’s schedule and states the board finds a public purpose served by paying employees for missed work days that will not be made up, including "increased morale, reduction of employee turnover, reducing the District's exposure to possible unemployment or Fair Labor Standards Act claims, and equitable treatment of all employees." It further directs the superintendent to pay "all employees for a regular duty day pursuant to Llano ISD Board Policy" for unexpected bad-weather closures. The motion to approve the resolution was made by Dean Campbell and seconded by Paul Hull; the vote was unanimous.
The resolution clarifies that nonexempt employees who are required to work during an emergency closing shall be paid at the premium rate described in DEA(LOCAL), and that the resolution applies only to bad-weather days the district will not make up.
