The board reviewed samples and technical options for the decorative textured and colored concrete to be used in the raised median and associated sidewalks for the US‑259 project. A consultant and staff explained that texture and color can be chosen independently and recommended consistency across phases to create a uniform streetscape; the flagstone-style texture and lighter colors drew several trustees' preferences.
Discussion included construction technique (roller vs. mats/stamps), maintenance and color fade over time, and how the texture would be applied across multiple phases so the streetscape remains uniform. "The idea was we're starting to work on this, and I didn't want to start something down in phase 1 outside of you guys' live jurisdiction and then get up in here and then all of a sudden, it changed colors," a consultant said. Trustees provided direction on preferred textures and asked staff to coordinate with vendors on samples and maintenance expectations before final specifications are issued.
Staff will coordinate with the vendor and benchmark construction engineering and inspection to reflect the board's color and texture choices in the construction documents.
