The revised language retains the limitation that town vehicles are for town business only but expressly allows assigned public‑safety employees to use a vehicle "as reasonably necessary while remaining available for immediate response," and adds a narrowly tailored allowance for transporting a minor (school, childcare, church, medical appointments) when specific disclosures and waivers and proof of insurance are provided.
"Those folks can take their vehicles home... that has been revised to say, employees assigned to take home public safety emergency response vehicle may use the vehicle as reasonably necessary while remaining available for immediate response," staff said, and explained the additional requirement for disclosure, authorization, waiver and required insurance for transporting minors. Trustees moved and seconded approval of the revisions and directed staff to present the final redline for formal adoption.
