Trustees, residents press for clearer limits on food trucks and enforcement

During the public-hearing discussion of zoning revisions, trustees and residents focused substantial attention on how the draft treats mobile food units versus food‑truck parks. One trustee asked whether the draft capped the number of food trucks a single business could host and said the planning packet's definition of a ‘‘food truck park’’ (four or more) implied that three or fewer units could operate without park rules.

A resident argued that existing mobile vendors are often operating long‑term in fixed locations and asked whether such setups would be grandfathered or require additional permitting. "We have two food trucks next to Bigfoot acts... They could put another one, and they still would have to have another permit... it's not until they get to four, they're not a food truck park," the resident said, urging staff to add language to prevent long‑term, quasi‑permanent setups.

Staff and the planner acknowledged the overlap between health‑department permits and zoning enforcement, noting state health statutes limit how long a mobile food unit may stay in a single spot and that separate mobile‑vendor and food‑truck statutes may apply. Trustees asked staff to draft tighter language and consider whether existing mobile vendors should be grandfathered to avoid creating enforcement gaps.
