Local resident urges tougher enforcement, larger fines to curb speeding on Deputy Pike

The resident said officers had provided a temporary improvement for a few months but that speeds returned to unsafe levels, and urged the county to impose stronger fines and more enforcement: "Until you start writing 4 and $600 tickets for 20 and 25 miles an hour over, nobody's safe on that route." He praised recent sign placement but said mowing and sight-line issues still create hazards and asked whether the county could do more enforcement or publicity about repeat offenders.
County staff and highway personnel acknowledged the complaint and noted they had started placing signage quickly after requests and are working through a list of posts to install signs and perform mowing and locates. The resident asked the board to consider a more sustained enforcement plan and said he would alert the media if needed to get action.
