Lubbock ISD recognizes teacher leaders, FFA champions and Special Olympics participants

At the Aug. 28 meeting the board recognized several staff and students for statewide achievements. McCool Academy teacher Cathrine Prenot was noted for being elected president of the Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT), a leadership role on the association’s nine-member executive committee.
Trustees also honored Talkington FFA students Olivia Mercado and Margaret Sawyer as 2025 Texas FFA Agriscience Fair Champions (Social Systems, Division VI) and Casandra Conner of Monterey FFA as Reserve Champion (Social Systems, Division V). The board highlighted the students’ research projects and credited AgriSTEAM programming with increasing agricultural awareness among younger students. Additionally, trustees recognized 31 Lubbock ISD students who competed at the Special Olympics Texas state meet, praising the program’s role in building confidence and community for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
