The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees voted 7-0 Aug. 28 to approve the 2025–2026 Employee Compensation Plan, which includes an option for a one-time lump-sum payment. Trustee Nancy Sharp moved the measure; Trustee Lala Chavez seconded the motion.
During public comment, Lauren Smith, president of the Lubbock Educators Association, voiced support for the plan and specifically thanked the board for including paraprofessionals. Smith said the compensation plan "is fully supported by LEA" and encouraged the board to approve it.
Board members recorded unanimous approval; the vote was recorded as 7-0. The compensation plan was considered alongside other personnel and benefits items—such as health-insurance design and clinic services—that the board approved during the morning session.
