County reports $418,497 CHIPS boost, highway projects, firearms range, and environmental cleanup contract

Denesha said the county passed a budget-modification resolution that provides an additional $418,497 in Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) funding to the County Highway Department. He also reported construction progress on a new county highway maintenance facility and an anticipated start on the Pine Road Bridge project.
The county board authorized development of a firearms training range on a former county landfill between Hermon and DePeyster, intended primarily for the sheriff’s department’s annual firearms training; Denesha said the site requires additional safety berms and is on county-owned land with limited other uses due to contamination. The county also approved a resolution authorizing the chair to sign a contract with Golden Environmental LLC, funded by the Environmental Property Reserve Fund, for removal and disposal of underground storage tanks and associated materials. Denesha noted the county also proclaimed July 2026 as American Patriots Month and read the Declaration of Independence at the full board meeting.
