Highway Superintendent Kelly Smith presented the board with an opportunity to buy a leftover 2024 diesel four-door, four-wheel-drive patrol truck quoted at $105,980 to replace two older highway vehicles. Smith told the board the truck would replace two older highway vehicles and that warranty details remained under review.
The board approved a motion by John Russell, seconded by Ray Campany, to transfer $46,000 from the highway unrestricted reserve to the highway equipment fund to support the purchase; the motion passed with no opposition. Smith also reported the town expects approximately $153,000 in CHIPS funding for paving work but cautioned that blacktop prices have risen from about $67 per ton to roughly $90 per ton, which will reduce paving volume compared with prior years.
The board discussed warranty options, whether to fund purchases from reserves versus borrowing, and the need to hire an additional highway employee; no final purchase contract was recorded at the meeting.
