Magnolia ISD voters approve $465.7 million bond to fund new schools, security and buses

Magnolia Independent School District trustees formally canvassed election returns May 12 and declared Proposition A approved, authorizing issuance of up to $465,688,326 in general obligation bonds to fund a new high school, two new elementary schools, additional sites, school buses and safety and security projects. The board recorded a total of 6,804 votes cast districtwide, a turnout of roughly 11.12% of registered voters.
The official resolution text accompanying the canvass states in all caps: "THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE." The district's canvass shows 4,317 votes in favor (63.45%) and 2,487 votes opposed (36.55%). The bond package specifically lists High School #3; Elementary #10 and #11; future land acquisition; buses; safety and security projects; and Priority 1 maintenance projects as covered uses. The resolution was approved during the board's May 12 meeting and will be followed by implementation steps required to issue bonds and effect construction contracts and land acquisitions.
