Lovejoy ISD to raise student meal prices by 25 cents to balance nutrition fund

The Lovejoy ISD board approved a 25¢ per-meal increase across student meal lines as part of the district's 2024–25 finance plan. The administration said the change is needed to present a balanced student nutrition budget for the year.
"In order for us to get to the balanced budget, we did have to, we are, presenting and proposing in a later agenda to increase the meal prices by 25¢ per meal," the cabinet member presenting the budget said. He and trustees clarified that the change excludes students on free or reduced-price meal programs and will not affect those benefits directly. The board approved the price change by motion, and the administration will finalize rates and implementation details with the student nutrition department.
The presentation listed examples of the proposed increases: elementary meals from $3.50 to $3.75; intermediate and middle school regular premium examples moving from about $4.00 to $4.25 or $4.75 to $5.00 depending on category; high school regular from $4.50 to $4.75 and high‑school premium from $5.25 to $5.50.
