Lockhart ISD board approves $96.6 million 2026-27 budget, commits fund balances and raises adult meal prices

The Lockhart Independent School District Board of Trustees on June 22 approved the 2026-2027 budgets for the Maintenance and Operation Fund, Debt Service Fund and School Nutrition Fund totaling $96,576,136. Trustee Dr. Barbara Sanchez moved approval; Trustee Rebecca Pulliam seconded and the motion carried 7-0.
The board also approved a resolution committing portions of the district's June 30, 2026 General Fund unassigned fund balance, including $34,538.61 for outstanding furniture encumbrances, $51,187.28 for the Lockhart Junior High chiller and fire panel replacement encumbrance, $42,344.18 for contracted services and supplies, and a $1,000,000 commitment for the district's property insurance deductible. Trustee Dr. Barbara Sanchez introduced the resolution and Trustee Rene Rayos seconded the motion.
In related action, the board approved an increase to adult meal prices in the School Nutrition Program, setting the lunch price at $5.20 and the breakfast price at $3.45 effective for the 2026-2027 school year. Trustee Dr. Barbara Sanchez moved approval; Trustee Rebecca Pulliam seconded and the motion carried 7-0.
There was no public comment on the budget at the public meeting/hearing portions of the agenda. Several staff reports and reviews preceded the board's budget vote, and the board took no action on those informational items.
