Residents tell Council lack of transportation and narrow activity choices keep many Florence youth from participating

Several residents and school staff told Council that transportation and limited program variety prevent many students from participating in after-school and evening activities.
Jocelyn Starr and Principal Nancy Hoch explained that some high-school activities extend past 5 p.m. with no bus service, and that the school and Recreation departments lack a simple shared calendar to coordinate events. Speakers proposed rotating event locations, using church vans or program-provided transport, and creating a centralized calendar so families can plan.
Council members acknowledged the barriers and mentioned exploring the GoGov app to send push notifications about events; no funding or firm schedule for transportation support was approved at the meeting.
