She recommended mentoring programs like Big Brother/Big Sister, shared scheduling between Recreation and schools, and incentives to engage students who don’t already participate in student government or athletics.
School board members and other speakers echoed the point that many local offerings are sport-focused and that the township needs more arts, STEM and nonathletic activities. Council members said they would work with volunteer groups to coordinate outreach but did not commit funding during the meeting.
