The Medina ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Jan. 27 to terminate a contingent-fee contract with the Law Office of Henry Steen for the collection of delinquent property taxes and to contract with Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins and Mott LLP to perform that work.
Trustee Sarah Holcomb moved to terminate the contract with the Law Office of Henry Steen; Trustee David Derry seconded the motion and the board voted 7-0 in favor. Separately, AJ Stern moved to hire Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins and Mott LLP and noted the notice was provided with the agenda; David Derry seconded that motion and it also carried 7-0. The meeting minutes reference Government Code section 2254.1036 in connection with the agenda notice as printed; the minutes do not include verbatim remarks from trustees or staff.
The actions remove the district's previous contingent-fee arrangement for delinquent-property-tax collections and designate a new outside law firm as the district's agent for those collections, effective upon board approval.
