Administrator seeks council backing for sidewalk waiver for small 'lifestyle' home

Township Administrator Thomas A. Sahol introduced a new resident, identified in the record as Brother Rene, who constructed a small single-family dwelling described in the meeting as a "lifestyle changing home." Sahol explained that sidewalks and curbing required by code would be impractical on the Summer Street side because of substantial trees and right-of-way constraints. He said the developer could install sidewalks along Front Street later as part of a Planning Board condition but cannot secure a full Certificate of Occupancy without either installing sidewalks or receiving a council waiver.
"He can't get his full CO to live in the property unless Council either grants a waiver or he installs a sidewalk," Administrator Sahol said. Councilmembers discussed the matter and asked Township Solicitor Robert Wright to review legal constraints; Council agreed that, if no legal impediment exists, the solicitor should prepare a resolution for a future meeting to permit Council action on the waiver request.
