Midway ISD to finalize SHAC roster, improvement plans and student handbook at September meeting; grading categories for grades 3–5 updated

The board received informational updates: the SHAC roster required by Senate Bill 283 will be approved in September; district and campus improvement plans will be accepted in September; the 2025–26 Student Handbook was presented with no action required; and grades 3–5 grading categories were revised to combine Reading and Language Arts into a Reading Languages Arts (RLA) category.
District staff presented several informational items on Aug. 12. The School Health Advisory Council roster for 2025–26 was provided in compliance with Senate Bill 283 and the board was told it will be approved at the September meeting. The district and each campus presented their improvement plans for 2025–26 and the board was scheduled to accept those plans at the September meeting. The 2025–26 Student Handbook was included in the board packet and required no action at this meeting.
The board was also informed of a revision to elementary grading procedures for grades 3–5: to align Midway ISD grading categories to state course codes, the district combined Reading and Language Arts into a single Reading Languages Arts (RLA) category. Staff said no board action was required at this meeting and that the items would return for formal acceptance or final action in September where indicated.
