Board finds teacher breached contract, authorizes notification to TEA seeking sanctions

The board adopted a finding that good cause did not exist for Aaron Bodey’s alleged abandonment of her Midway ISD employment contract, citing Texas Education Code Sec. 21.210(c)(2) and 19 Texas Administrative Code Sec. 249.14(j). President Pete Rusek moved the finding, Colin Witt seconded, and the motion carried 6–0. The board then authorized the superintendent to send a letter to the Texas Education Agency seeking sanctions against Bodey’s educator certification; that motion (seconded by Pam Watts) also carried 6–0.
Separately, the board approved a set of personnel recommendations including new hires, transfers and separations across campuses. Examples included Jessie Hunter as a behavior coach at Castleman Creek Elementary; Stacey Tindell Lumley as librarian at Chapel Park Elementary; Heather McClanahan and Lauren Thrash as SPED teachers at Midway High School; and multiple paraprofessional hirings and separations listed in the agenda. The personnel approvals were recorded in the meeting minutes and are reflected in the consent or subsequent personnel items.
