Athletic Director Brad Shelton told the Board on June 16 that approximately 1,080 high school students, roughly 40% of the high-school population, participated in athletics during the school year and that 28 student-athletes signed letters of intent to play at the collegiate level.
Shelton highlighted 11 district championships and state qualifiers in powerlifting, track and field, golf and softball. He said he anticipates girls' flag football becoming a UIL-sanctioned sport within a year and that shot clocks will soon be implemented for varsity basketball.
Trustees acknowledged the participation numbers and college signings during the recognitions and the extracurricular report; the information was provided for the Board's awareness and does not require formal board action.
