The Board of Trustees of the Midway Independent School District voted Aug. 18 to call an $83.5 million bond election for Nov. 4, 2025, and specified the measure would go forward without increasing the districts interest-and-sinking (I&S) tax rate. "I move to call for an $83.5 million bond election with no increase in the I&S tax rate in November," President Pete Rusek said when making the motion; Colin Witt seconded and the motion carried 7-0.
Board members reviewed whether to place a bond on a November or May ballot and reached consensus to proceed in November. Trustees said the proposed bond package would emphasize deferred maintenance, safety upgrades, technology investments and other district needs while postponing growth-related projects and new construction for a later date. The meeting agenda notes the board discussed timing and package composition before the formal vote.
President Rusek announced the meeting would go into closed session earlier in the agenda under Texas Government Code Section 551.072 to discuss real property; he later reconvened open session at 12:03 p.m., stating no action had been taken in closed session. The special meeting adjourned at 1:05 p.m.
