Superintendent highlights student achievements, honors teacher and commemorates E.J. Campbell statue

Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo opened the Oct. 24 meeting with announcements honoring students and staff. He noted that Nixon Long, a senior at Nacogdoches High School, set a school record at the District 10-5A cross country meet with a 3.1-mile time of 16 minutes, 8 seconds and earned a berth in the Class 5A Region II meet. Trujillo also reported that Justin Phillips, an NHS senior, was named a 2025 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.
Dr. Trujillo recounted the E.J. Campbell statue unveiling and dedication held the prior weekend and offered condolences on the death of teacher Jody Franks, whose memorial service was scheduled for Oct. 26. Chief Barton introduced two newly hired district officers, Luke Peterson and Doug Reed; Cory Taylor of the Nacogdoches Law Enforcement Foundation noted the Bright Foundation sponsored Peterson's academy tuition.
